Go beyond what is asked to improve personal, educational, or work-related projects

Volleyball has been my life for the past eight years. I breathe, speak, and bleed volleyball. It is my way to calm down after a hard day at school. It’s mine. Mine, to escape, the stress of life, the stress of school, the stress of family, just to escape. It’s mine, to take out my aggression on the world, to be loud and aggressive. When I play volleyball I totally forget all my problems and focus on nothing but volleyball and the intensity of the game. I wouldn't have been able to feel about a sport this way if I didn't have Coach Walbaum.

The end of my freshman year, my volleyball coach pushed me aside and told me she wanted me to start practicing my setting. Of course, I was shocked because moving from an all-around hitter and left-back passer to setting is a huge change. She told me to start working on it that summer. That summer, I got a hold of my seventh and eighth grade club volleyball coach and he helped me all that summer practicing my setting. But, I did more than that(P108). I worked on my footwork, my vertical, and my quickness so I could show my coaches how much I wanted this.

My sophomore year, I was the starting setter of the varsity team. I wouldn’t have been able to do it with out the help of Mr. Walbaum and my team mates for supporting me through the changes. I had to work harder than everyone else. I went beyond my goals to be the best.

I learned to go beyond what is asked to improve personal goals. In my personal life, I will use these skills if someone asks me to do something, for example, clean there car, I will do more than clean their car; I will wax their car also. In my work life, if my boss needed papers from me by Friday, I will give it to them by Thursday.
