This year is my senior year. As a senior, I was given the privilege to be one of the captains of the volleyball team. I have been the setter on the Varsity volleyball team for three years.  Being the captain on the volleyball team comes with a lot of responsibilities. To be a captain is to be a leader that team members can look to for help, advice, or even just spirit. The captain needs to remain positive all of the time so that the rest of the team's attitudes will reflect that, and be a role model for his or her teammates in accordance with what the coach expects from them.

The captain at practice or at game affects the team members. The captain has to always hold their composure. Even if she is having a bad day, she always must encourage the team and keep them in a positive mood. The team follows the captain. If the captain is dragging through practice, then the teammates will feel that they can too. Attitude is everything when being a captain. On most sports teams, there are usually two or more captains. If a team only has one captain, that captain can never miss a game or even a practice. When she does, the team will have problems getting started.

From being the captain for the last two months I have learned that I have to be a role model to others, and make sure I don’t disappoint them. I also learned how to help other team members accomplish their tasks. The skills that I learned from being the captain will help me tremendously in life. It will help me in the real life and in the work life. It’ll help me learn to communicate with my co-workers and it will help me in college when it comes to group projects. If I want to have a good relationship between my roommates and I need to show them that I can accomplish tasks that they give me. If they need me to clean, I will. If they want me to act more like a role model, I will.
