P107- Be self-motivated in taking responsibility
P109- Recognize a need or opportunity and take appropriate action
I have participated in the Community Service club for three years. I volunteered at multiple events. To be a part of this club I had to be self-motivated and be able to take on such a large responsibility. I needed to recognize a need and take appropriate action. People are involved in community service for different reasons and it is up to the individual to realize if it is worthwhile and why they are helping others.
For the past three years, I have volunteered at the blood drive hosted by Hanover Horton High School. I brought treats for the blood donors so their blood sugar remains stable, and I escorted donors to the library. This is my favorite thing to be a part of because I’m involved with a large responsibility. This isn’t the only event I have participated in. Six other people and I went to the homeless shelter and served food to the homeless. It was a very emotional experience to be involved in. I witnessed the sadness in their eyes but also the thankfulness.
By participating in community service, I was introduced to good values and morals. Values such as humbleness, gratefulness, honesty, sincerity and respect are among the important virtues that one can acquire from helping the community. The more hours I spent helping others made me appreciate more. In my future life, It will help me learn how to take responsibility and take action in helping others and help me realize how grateful I am for what I have, and by putting just a few hours a month could impact a person’s life. It will help me not be selfish.
As a therapist, I could motivate my clients in helping others when they don’t feel wanted. Whenever I am at work, I will be able to be able to make appropriate actions/decisions. I will be able to hold any responsibility. I developed skills, facilitated personal growth and community connections, and created a pathway to meaningful employment.
