In fifth grade, my best friend told me to play volleyball. I remember automatically saying no because I thought volleyball was a girly sport; somehow I was convinced and went to a practice. Seven years later, I’m the starting setter and captain of the Hanover Horton Varsity Volleyball team.

One of the main job’s of being a setter is to express my point of view to my teammates. When I give a hitter a set and I realize that they are starting their approach early or not snapping their wrists, I need to tell them that so next time we will get the point. But, that’s my opinion. From a back row players view they could say that her approach was late. It all depends on where you are on the ccourt. Another skill that I have learned in volleyball is how we express ou views to our team. In a game, pressure can rise quickly and our inner competiveness come out where if we see someone foing something wrong we will tell them, but it might come out harshly. I learned to not get mad at the player for doing something wrong. I have to let them know what they did wrong and tell them to keep up the good work.

Volleyball is more of a metal game than physical, If one og us gets down on ourselves then we all do, like dominos. The same can happen in the workforce. If I accidently say something that makes one of my clients upset and freak out, that will come back and affect me.It will make me feel like a failure because I lost one of my clients. Volleyball taught me to always keep my chin up and make sure to not upset my teammates with whatever my views are. Now, I will never say something to my clients that could hurt them and affect them negatively.

In my personal life, if I yell at one of my future children for telling me a secret and I yell at her for her mistakes, she will never tell me anything anymore because she will be scared that I will yell at her for telling the truth. From the skills I learned from volleyball, I will be able to communicate with my future kids efficiently.
